Shanaka Receives One-Year PSL Ban for Unilateral Withdrawal in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been banned from participating in the next season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) following his withdrawal from this year’s tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued the ban on Monday after Shanaka opted to join the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This marks another instance of a player facing suspension for leaving the PSL to compete in the IPL, which occurs during a similar timeframe. Earlier this month, Zimbabwean bowler Blessing Muzarabani received a two-year ban under similar circumstances.

According to a PCB statement, Shanaka, aged 34, had withdrawn from the PSL without adhering to the contractual obligations. The board highlighted that the reasons for his withdrawal were not recognized within existing agreements.

In response to the situation, Shanaka expressed regret regarding his decision to pull out of the PSL. He emphasized that at the time of his withdrawal, he had no intention of participating in any other tournament.

Shanaka, who captained Sri Lanka during the recent Twenty20 World Cup, has yet to make an appearance for the Rajasthan Royals this season. He remains hopeful about returning to the PSL in the future, aiming to re-establish his connection with the league and its fans.
