Dacoit,” a romantic action drama featuring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, premiered on April 10, 2023. Directed by Shaneil Deo, the film received mixed reviews, yet it achieved the highest opening of Sesh’s career. Despite the varied audience reactions, “Dacoit” has shown steady box office performance and has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of Sesh’s previous project, “HIT: The Second Case.”
As reported by the trade website Sacnilk, “Dacoit” grossed 86 lakhs net on its eighth day, bringing its domestic total to ₹29.47 crore. The film recently overtook “HIT 2,” which had collected ₹25.92 crore throughout its run, but it still trails behind “Major,” which earned ₹41.03 crore. With ₹28.45 crore earned during its opening week, “Dacoit” has demonstrated a solid start.
The film’s box office journey began with an opening day collection of ₹6.55 crore, maintaining consistency over the weekend with ₹6.85 crore on Saturday and ₹6.40 crore on Sunday. However, the following weekdays saw fluctuations in earnings, with collections of ₹2.70 crore on Monday and an increase to ₹3 crore on Tuesday. The film experienced a dip again on Wednesday with ₹1.55 crore and continued to decline on Thursday, collecting ₹1.40 crore.
Anurag Kashyap, who plays a role in “Dacoit,” shared interesting insights about his casting process. He was approached at the wedding of Sobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya, where he received a pitch for the film amidst the wedding festivities. Kashyap expressed that he could not decline the offer, especially since this role differed from his usual portrayals of intense characters.
It’s noteworthy that the collaboration continues a professional relationship between Sobhita and Kashyap, as she debuted in acting through his film “Raman Raghav 2.0” in 2016. “Dacoit” marks Kashyap’s entry into Telugu cinema after a successful career in Tamil and Malayalam films, including “Maharaja” and “Rifle Club.” The film’s sustained success in its second week remains to be seen as it navigates the competitive landscape of current releases.
