6 Major Changes Set to Shape Dubai Throughout August 2026

Dubai enters August with several notable developments that will influence daily life for residents and visitors alike. From a likely long public holiday and the reopening of popular dining promotions to new retail destinations, the return of schools and the final weeks of major seasonal events, the month brings a packed calendar across the emirate.

Authorities, retailers and entertainment organizers have already confirmed a number of key dates. According to Time Out Dubai allowing residents to prepare for schedule changes, shopping opportunities and increased traffic as the summer season gradually comes to an end.

Public Holiday, School Return and Community Updates

One of the most anticipated dates on the UAE calendar this month is the observance of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH). The occasion is expected to fall on Tuesday, August 25, based on the anticipated start of the Islamic month of Rabi’ Al-Awwal around August 14.

However, under the UAE’s public holiday regulations, authorities may shift the official holiday to Monday, August 24. If confirmed, many employees would benefit from a three-day weekend when combined with Saturday and Sunday, while some public-sector workers participating in the “Our Flexible Summer” initiative could receive an even longer break.

Another significant milestone arrives at the end of the month when students across both public and private schools resume classes. According to the Ministry of Education’s approved 2026–2027 academic calendar, lessons will begin on Monday, August 31. As families return from summer vacations, motorists can expect heavier traffic, particularly during morning and afternoon peak hours, while shopping malls and leisure destinations are also likely to become noticeably busier.

Shopping, Dining and New Destinations

Dubai’s annual summer shopping festival continues to provide residents with attractive promotions. One of the most popular initiatives making its return is the AED 10 dishes campaign, offering specially priced meals at participating restaurants, cafés and food outlets across the city.

Running from August 3 through August 30, the promotion forms part of Dubai Summer Surprises 2026, encouraging residents and tourists to explore a wide variety of dining venues while taking advantage of affordable seasonal offers.

August will also welcome a new addition to Dubai’s retail landscape. The Grand community mall in Nad Al Sheba is scheduled to begin welcoming visitors on August 19 with a phased launch.

Several established brands are expected to open during the first stage, including Waitrose, MMI, Heart Cottage Lane, Maple Bear Nursery, Al Jaber Optical and Fixperts. Additional restaurants and lifestyle concepts—including Tashas, Somewhere Home Bakery, Kokoro, Blu Pizzeria, Bake My Day, Daima, Staywell Pharmacy and Tips and Toes—are planned to join the complex during early September, creating a broader neighborhood retail hub.

Summer Events Enter Their Final Weeks

August also marks the conclusion of two of Dubai’s largest seasonal attractions.

Dubai Summer Surprises, now celebrating its 29th edition, will officially finish on August 30 after nearly two months of shopping campaigns, entertainment, family experiences and exclusive promotions. Visitors can still expect major flash sales, live performances as part of the Beat The Heat DXB concert series, along with the closing days of Summer Restaurant Week before the festival concludes.

Sports enthusiasts also have limited time left to enjoy Dubai Sports World at Dubai World Trade Centre. The annual indoor sporting venue, designed to provide climate-controlled facilities throughout the hottest months of the year, is expected to close on August 25.

The venue offers facilities for football, basketball, cricket, badminton, tennis, table tennis, padel and pickleball, alongside a fully equipped gym, fitness studios and an indoor running track. Its final operating weeks traditionally attract both amateur athletes and families seeking indoor recreational activities before the summer season ends.

Taken together, these developments signal a busy transition period for Dubai. While residents can still enjoy seasonal discounts, sporting events and entertainment throughout August, the month also marks the gradual return to regular routines as schools reopen and the city’s summer initiatives draw to a close.
