A Dubai court has handed life sentences to four women from Africa for their involvement in drug trafficking. After serving their sentences, they are also set to be deported.
The investigation began when the Dubai Police’s General Department of Anti-Narcotics received information about a woman suspected of possessing and distributing illegal drugs. In response, a specialized team was formed to execute an undercover operation.
An undercover female officer, posing as a buyer, reached out to the main suspect to arrange a meeting to purchase a set of prohibited pharmaceutical pills. On the specified date, the suspect arrived with two accomplices and a male driver.
During the operation, the officer handed over Dh2,000 in exchange for a quantity of controlled substances. At that point, authorities intervened and arrested the three women along with the driver.
Further investigations indicated that the women were part of a larger network involved in drug promotion and distribution. A search of their residence in Jumeirah led to the discovery of additional drugs and evidence supporting their illicit activities. One of the suspects was discovered with a separate stash intended for distribution.
All four women admitted to their involvement in drug trafficking, while the male driver denied any participation in illegal activities. He claimed that he was simply hired for transportation and had no knowledge of the group’s criminal actions, stating that he had been asked by the primary suspect to deliver envelopes without knowing their contents.
Ultimately, the court convicted the women and sentenced them to life imprisonment, while the driver was acquitted due to insufficient evidence linking him to the drug trafficking scheme.
Dubai authorities remain steadfast in their zero-tolerance approach to drug-related offenses, stressing that those who violate the laws will face severe penalties.
