A recent incident involving a DXB employee who received recognition from the Dubai Ruler for his compassionate service to an elderly passenger in a wheelchair highlighted the values at Dubai International Airport. Abdullah Al Baloushi shared, “I recognized my mother in that passenger.”
Abdullah expressed that kindness is a core principle at DXB when engaging with travelers.
“Being helpful and considerate to passengers is embedded in our workplace culture,” Abdullah told a local news outlet. “Elderly travelers often feel anxious while traveling. Many times they are alone, so I enjoy conversing with them to help ease their minds. I saw my mother in this situation; it reminded me of her tender moments, especially when I saw her waving at her son outside. I invited him in for a last hug before her departure.”

The positive actions of Abdullah were acknowledged by the passenger’s daughter-in-law, Heba Mustafa Saleh, a radio host at Dubai’s Alarabiya 99. A video of her sharing her family’s experience with Abdullah was later posted by the Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on social media, who remarked, “A salute to those who bring joy and a smile to travelers. This is the Dubai spirit we promote.”
“It moved me to tears”
Abdullah noted that he was unaware of his viral fame until after the event. “I had just woken up from a night shift when I found numerous missed calls from work,” he recounted. “Confused, I returned the call, and they informed me that I should check social media. That’s when I discovered Sheikh Mohammed had shared the video. Upon seeing it, I was overwhelmed with emotion—I cried tears of joy.”
Having served at DXB for over 17 years, Abdullah expressed his passion for his role. “Each day, I come to work with enthusiasm,” he stated. “I get to meet so many different individuals and assist them on their journeys, welcoming them to my beautiful country and wishing them safe travels home.”
He mentioned that his colleagues also strive to exceed expectations in providing excellent service to all travelers passing through DXB. “Whether it’s the immigration staff, police, or baggage handlers, we all aim to ensure that every passenger is well cared for during their time at the airport,” he concluded.
