The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has announced the launch of a general program accompanying the installation artwork titled “Resonance of the Winds.” This project was developed in collaboration with the Alserkal Arts Foundation and is situated in the historic Al Shandagha district. This initiative is part of the “Art in Public Spaces” strategy that the authority aims to implement, with the goal of providing unique artistic experiences that transform Dubai into an open, global art exhibition accessible to all, thereby enhancing its prominence and leadership on the world stage.
Through this program, set to take place tomorrow at the visitor center in Al Shandagha, the authority seeks to empower the public and arts enthusiasts to experience the beauty of this artwork designed by Mariam Namour and architect Nada Salmanpour. Attendees will also have the opportunity to appreciate the unique architectural features of the historic district and the various installation artworks that contribute to enriching the local artistic and creative landscape.
Sessions
The program’s agenda will feature a panel discussion titled “Reimagining Perception: Sound and Place,” hosted by curator Munira Al Saigh. The discussion will include Emirati sound artist Safia Al Bloushi, who will share insights into her experiences and practices in modified sound recordings, focusing on the connections between our environment and auditory experiences, and how to define space through its auditory dimension.
Mariam Namour and Nada Salmanpour will discuss their experience in creating the artwork “Resonance of the Winds,” which consists of three meticulously suspended metal panels that reflect the visual and auditory elements of the historic area. This work invites viewers to pause and listen to the interactions between wind, water, and architecture.
Participants will also reflect on the passage of time through this region’s historical and cultural significance. Additionally, Nigerian artist and curator Osy Ikori will lead a session titled “Liberation from Weight through Sound,” allowing participants to engage in a communal listening experience inspired by the surrounding environment of the historic district.
The program will also feature an interactive multi-sensory tour titled “Response to Sound,” designed to enable attendees to understand the impact of the interplay between auditory and visual senses on the creative process. This involves experimenting with capturing images of the historic district while blending listening and storytelling through innovative methods.
