UAE Copy Rights Organization Contributes to Shaping the Future of Intellectual Property Protection in Asia

The Emirates Copyright Management Association concluded its active participation in the regional meeting of the Asia Committee, organized by the International Copyright Management Organization (Afro), which took place in India from April 23 to 25. The event saw a significant turnout from representatives of copyright management organizations from around the globe.

This involvement reflects the association’s commitment to enhancing its presence on both international and regional stages, as well as its dedication to keeping up with the latest developments in copyright and neighboring rights protection. Such efforts contribute to bolstering the system for safeguarding copyright and intellectual property rights, while refining practices at local and global levels.

Representing the Emirates Copyright Management Association at this meeting were Majd Al-Shahi, the association’s director, Rumika Shaula, the legal representative, and Hala Al-Ali, a rights relations and licensing specialist. They utilized this important international platform to exchange experiences and address challenges and shared visions with peers from Asia.

The agenda included productive contributions during the sessions, where the director highlighted the UAE’s pioneering experience in preserving copyright and regulating the use of creative works. Additionally, Shaula gave a specialized presentation on the significance of protecting intellectual property rights and the role of collective management organizations in strengthening that protection through legal and community frameworks.

Majd Al-Shahi stated, “We believe in the importance of showcasing the UAE’s leading experience in copyright protection and adopting best practices that enhance a culture of respect for creative rights, thus promoting innovation and intellectual production across various sectors.”

She added, “Our participation in this international gathering underscores our ongoing commitment to exchanging expertise and fostering collaboration with regional and global partners, supporting this comprehensive system in the UAE and the region.”

Additionally, she noted, “Our involvement in the regional meeting also reflects our deep commitment to reinforcing legal frameworks that ensure the protection of copyright and neighboring rights. Joint efforts with sister organizations in Asia contribute to the advancement of copyright protection practices, offering an essential platform for sharing experiences on enhancing compliance and raising legal awareness regarding the importance of protecting intellectual creativity at both community and institutional levels.”

The association aims to strengthen regional cooperation and explore global best practices in copyright protection, while also fostering a culture of respect for the rights of creators and innovators, supporting the sustainability of the creative economy in the UAE and the region.
