Saeed Hamdan Al Teneji, the Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language and the Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, stated that this year’s exhibition showcases remarkable diversity, featuring over 2,000 various events along with programs and activities organized by participating institutions and organizations.
He highlighted that the 34th edition of the fair involves participation from more than 1,400 exhibitors from 96 countries, with over 20 new countries joining the event.
Additionally, he mentioned that the fair’s agenda includes special activities for children and a variety of community programs aimed at all demographics, especially the youth. The event will also feature segments dedicated to culinary culture and advanced demonstrations of modern technology, showcased through the “Digital Square,” which plays a central role in the event by presenting the latest advancements in the publishing industry.
This year, the fair celebrates the classic work “One Thousand and One Nights,” linking this celebration to the contributions of the renowned scholar Avicenna by highlighting his book “The Canon of Medicine,” written a millennium ago. This connection emphasizes the importance of bridging scientific and cultural heritage.
Al Teneji affirmed that the exhibition pays special attention to Emirati publishers by showcasing their experiences in the publishing sector, as well as enhancing collaborative publication and translation initiatives between Arab and global publishers. He explained that these initiatives provide a genuine opportunity for Emirati publishers to present their content and ambitions, contributing to the visibility of the advancement in the publishing industry in the UAE and expanding collaborative horizons with international publishers.
He added that the fair also offers ample space for e-books and technology, allowing the audience to explore the latest developments in global publishing technologies. He pointed to the “Arts Corner,” which is a notable section that displays creative experiences in book production.
Furthermore, he noted that the “Poetry Council” provides a unique experience this year, featuring both traditional and contemporary poetry, alongside studies and literary experiences that spotlight local and Arab poetic movements through specialized sessions. He emphasized that these indicators reflect the richness and diversity presented by the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair this year, catering to the aspirations of various community segments and reinforcing its position as a leading cultural platform on a global scale in the publishing industry.
