Recent data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that there have been 884 confirmed cases of measles in the United States since the beginning of this year, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year.
Since the start of 2025, the country has experienced 11 outbreaks of measles.
The CDC defines an outbreak as occurring when three or more related cases of the disease are identified.
Additionally, 30 states and territories have reported confirmed cases, with 94 hospitalizations and 3 fatalities attributed to the disease.
The number of measles cases this year represents a stark rise from 2024, when only 285 cases were reported.
The agency emphasized that the most effective way to prevent the disease is by receiving two doses of the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, and rubella).
