European diplomatic sources reported to Der Spiegel on Friday that the U.S. envoy warned that President Donald Trump might skip the upcoming NATO summit if member countries fail to address burden-sharing issues.
The report indicated that Germany, in particular, is under pressure to significantly increase its defense spending. Last week, U.S. Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth discussed this matter with his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius.
