The UAE Holds Its First Consular Consultations with Jordan to Discuss Strengthening Consular Cooperation

The inaugural round of consular consultations between the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was held, attended by senior officials from the foreign ministries of both countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

This meeting aimed to strengthen consular cooperation and improve the quality of services provided to the citizens of both brotherly nations.

The discussion was led by His Excellency Omar Obaid Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the UAE side, while the Jordanian delegation was chaired by His Excellency Ambassador Majid Thalji Al Qatamine, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. Al Shamsi welcomed the Jordanian delegation and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, for a successful dialogue.

He emphasized that the Emirati-Jordanian relationship is based on strong historical foundations of understanding and closeness, established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late King Hussein bin Talal since the early days of UAE’s foundation.

He noted that these relations are rapidly evolving under the benevolent guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, elevating the partnership to a comprehensive strategic level.

H.E. Al Shamsi highlighted that holding these consular consultations for the first time presents an opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of consular cooperation through institutional channels, thereby meeting the aspirations of citizens and building their trust in the services provided. He expressed hopes to improve consular work mechanisms and expand the exchange of experiences to implement best practices that ensure agility and quick responses.

The Jordanian delegation also conducted a site visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Operations Center to observe the best practices in emergency management, crisis response, and coordination mechanisms, showcasing the high institutional readiness and modern standards the ministry employs to handle various emergency scenarios.

In turn, H.E. Ambassador Majid Thalji Al Qatamine praised the level of consular services offered by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He underscored the importance of sustaining cooperation and sharing expertise to enhance consular work between the two nations, expressing appreciation for the efforts made by UAE authorities to facilitate procedures for Jordanian citizens. He confirmed that the relations between the two countries enjoy full support and shared aspirations to strengthen cooperation across various fields, particularly in the consular domain.
