Gulf-American Summit Calls for an End to the Gaza War and Support for Regional Stability

Several critical files were discussed during the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-U.S. summit. Topics included the Gaza conflict, the Iranian nuclear issue, and the broader regional situation, with U.S. President Donald Trump announcing a new proposal aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Gaza, among other significant issues addressed at this important gathering.

Concerning the Gaza war, the U.S. administration proposed a new plan that begins with the release of Israeli hostages in the region as an initial step towards ceasing hostilities and paving the way for a comprehensive resolution.

The U.S. President emphasized in his speech that the United States “will do everything possible to end the Gaza war” and facilitate the release of prisoners.

He continued by expressing hope for achieving security and dignity for the Palestinian people in Gaza, urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “seize the opportunity to negotiate for the release of hostages,” asserting that this proposal represents a unique chance to halt the escalating violence.

Trump stressed the urgency of achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, noting that his administration has shown a willingness to make bold decisions.

He articulated his vision for a Middle East suffused with progress and prosperity, underlining the important friendship between the United States and Gulf countries. Regarding the Lebanese crisis, Trump remarked that Lebanon has a new opportunity with its current leaders, saying, “There is a chance for a future free from Hezbollah’s grip.”

During the discussions about ongoing nuclear negotiations with Tehran, he stated, “I would like to make a deal with Iran, but they must stop supporting terrorism in the region and abandon their pursuit of nuclear weapons.”

Collaborative Efforts

The summit was inaugurated by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who expressed that this gathering reflects a commitment to enhance cooperation and collective efforts towards regional stability.

He noted that the GCC-U.S. summit has underscored the importance of bolstering the security of Gulf Cooperation Council member states, protecting their interests, combating terrorism, and enhancing military and defense capabilities.

Furthermore, it highlighted the need to address various threats and challenges with a unified vision aimed at achieving regional and international peace and stability. He expressed that the GCC countries share the United States’ belief in the significance of economic partnership and trade cooperation.

He added that there is a joint effort with the President and GCC partners to de-escalate tensions in the region, end the conflict in Gaza, and find a lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions to ensure security and peace for the peoples of the area.

Moreover, he reaffirmed support for all efforts aimed at ending crises and peace through peaceful means, while the Kingdom continues to encourage dialogue among Yemeni parties and seeks a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.

Regarding Lebanon, the Saudi Crown Prince stressed the need to confine weapons to the Lebanese state and support efforts for stability in the country. On the subject of the Ukrainian crisis, he remarked that “the Kingdom is prepared to continue its efforts to help resolve the Ukrainian situation.”

Foundational Agreement

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan announced an agreement with the United States on the necessity of “ending the war in Gaza” during a press conference in Riyadh following the summit.

He stated, “We hope that the release of American hostage Aidan Alexander will serve as a basis for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza,” emphasizing that Saudi Arabia has insisted on allowing humanitarian aid without any conditions.

Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, during his address, called for resolutions to the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution, noting that successful U.S.-Iran negotiations would enhance stability in the region. He also highlighted the importance of securing navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea.

Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah expressed his hope that the GCC-U.S. summit would serve as a catalyst for resolving regional issues, reiterating the necessity of a permanent and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian crisis to establish an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967.

Additionally, he mentioned the importance of stabilizing Syria and emphasized the need to restore peace efforts in the region according to Arab peace initiatives and international legitimacy resolutions. He welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Houthi forces, which protects maritime navigation.

Constructive Role

Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Asaad bin Tariq Al Said highlighted the crucial importance of establishing peace in the region, asserting that “achieving peace is impossible without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.” He expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and appreciated President Trump’s constructive role in restoring secure maritime navigation in the Red Sea.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, reiterated steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, expressing the Council’s hope for successful international efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and create an environment that ensures security and stability for the Palestinian people.

After concluding his participation in the GCC-U.S. summit, Trump headed to Doha for an official visit, which marks the second stop on his regional tour. During his visit, he is expected to discuss economic and security issues, along with coordinating Gulf positions regarding developments in the region and the world.
