Indonesian authorities have raised the alert level to its maximum following the recent eruption of Mount Lewotobi Lakilaki, located on the tourist island of Flores in the eastern part of the country. The volcano has released a dense ash cloud that ascended to over 1,000 meters.
According to a statement from the Indonesian National Agency for Volcanology, the volcano erupted again shortly after midnight, sending up an ash plume that reached 1.2 kilometers above the summit, with additional eruptions occurring later in the morning.
Mohammad Wahid, head of the Indonesian Geological Agency, urged local residents to wear masks to avoid inhaling ash and advised against any activities within at least a six-kilometer radius from the volcano’s crater. He also cautioned that heavy rainfall could trigger mudflows, particularly in residential areas near rivers that originate from the slopes of the volcano.
