European Union Approves Seventeenth Sanction Package Against Russia

The European Union officially approved a new package of sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, aimed at disrupting its fleet of “shadow” oil tankers. The bloc also warned of additional penalties for Moscow due to its refusal to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

EU foreign policy chief, Kaia Kallas, announced on social media that “the European Union has greenlit the seventeenth round of sanctions against Russia, targeting nearly 200 vessels from its shadow fleet.” She further indicated, “Preparations for further sanctions against Russia are underway. The longer Russia prolongs the war, the harsher our response will be.
