Post-Graduation Realities and Future Prospects: Key Insights for Job-Ready Graduates
A recent session titled “Post-Graduation: Realities and Future” was held as part of the Arab Media Forum’s youth discussions during the Arab Media Summit. The session highlighted ten essential pillars that can effectively prepare recent graduates for the job market and help them secure positions that align with their skills and future aspirations.
Norhan Fahmy from the Monify platform discussed the main challenges young individuals face when seeking their first job. She offered practical solutions to navigate these hurdles, which include:
- Creating a professional resume without focusing excessively on design aesthetics.
- Engaging in practical training to gain the necessary experience.
- Building a network of professional contacts.
- Dedication to skill development and acquiring new abilities beyond their field of study.
- Applying to multiple job vacancies and diligently tracking applications.
- Marketing their skills to employers.
- Having confidence in their personal abilities.
- Taking advantage of volunteer and training opportunities.
The session emphasized the importance of preparing for job interviews and acquiring both digital and interpersonal skills that are in demand in the current market.
Fahmy shared her own experience, noting that, like many new graduates, she assumed finding a job immediately after university would be straightforward. However, after facing multiple rejections, she utilized the time to enhance her skills.
She stressed that success in securing employment begins with the graduate’s awareness of their capabilities and their commitment to continuous learning and development. Moreover, she highlighted the significance of leveraging training and volunteer opportunities as initial steps towards employment. Each skill a graduate acquires helps reduce competition in their field.
