Russia and North Korea Open Fire on the “Golden Dome

Russian Official Critiques U.S. “Golden Dome” Defense Project

A representative from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated recently that the U.S. “Golden Dome” initiative undermines the foundations of strategic stability due to its incorporation of a global missile defense system.

During a press conference, Zakharova remarked, “As part of the ‘Golden Dome’ project, there are plans to enhance the development of pre-emptive targeting methods for enemy missiles and their infrastructure. This indeed reflects a dangerous trend in U.S. doctrine, which relies on launching pre-emptive strikes. Such an approach is reckless and poses a direct threat to the principles of strategic stability.”

In a related development, North Korea has also classified the “Golden Dome” initiative as an extremely serious threat aimed at militarizing space, according to state media reports. The North Korean Foreign Ministry issued a statement to the international community, warning that the establishment of a new U.S. missile defense system is a highly provocative move that jeopardizes the strategic security of nuclear-armed nations.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the ministry’s memo accused the United States of being determined to militarize outer space.

Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry emphasized that the American plan to develop a new missile defense system is the root cause of a global nuclear and space arms race, as it stirs security concerns among nuclear-capable countries and risks turning outer space into a potential nuclear battlefield. The North Korean Institute of American Studies designated the “Golden Dome” plan as a prime example of America First policies, characterizing it as an epitome of arrogance and a prelude to possible nuclear conflict in space.

Hong Min, an analyst from the Korea Unification Institute, indicated that Pyongyang views Trump’s “Golden Dome” as a significant threat. He noted that North Korea’s strong reaction highlights Seoul’s apprehension that the initiative could substantially undermine the effectiveness of its nuclear arsenal, including its intercontinental ballistic missiles.

He also pointed out that if the United States successfully completes its new missile defense system, North Korea will have no choice but to develop alternative means to counter or bypass it.
