Egypt and Qatar have announced their continued collaborative efforts to bridge the divide among the concerned parties, aiming to resolve the existing differences in order to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, based on the proposal put forth by the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Hanke.
In a joint statement released this evening, both nations expressed their commitment to ongoing coordination with the United States to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at overcoming the obstacles hindering negotiations. They urged all involved parties to act responsibly and support the mediators’ initiatives to resolve the crisis in Gaza, which would contribute to restoring stability and calm in the region.
The statement highlighted Egypt and Qatar’s hope to achieve a temporary ceasefire lasting 60 days, paving the way for a permanent cessation of hostilities. This would also allow for the initiation of indirect negotiations among the parties simultaneously, as well as the opening of crossings to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that the complete termination of the war and the commencement of the reconstruction process in Gaza are shared priorities, in alignment with the plan established at the emergency Arab summit held in Cairo on March 13, 2025.
