The British government has announced plans to establish at least six new factories dedicated to the production of weapons and explosives as part of a comprehensive review of its defense capabilities.
This investment, totaling £1.5 billion ($2.0 billion), will be incorporated into a strategic defense review, which outlines a decade-long plan for military equipment and services. The release of the strategic defense review is expected on Monday.
The Ministry of Defence also indicated its intention to procure up to 7,000 long-range weapons manufactured in the UK. These initiatives are projected to create around 1,800 job opportunities.
Defense Secretary John Healy stated, “The lessons learned from President Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine demonstrate that the strength of the military is directly linked to the strength of the industry that supports it.
