The office of the Prime Minister of Brunei announced that the Sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah, has been discharged from the hospital in Malaysia where he had been receiving treatment.
According to the announcement, the 78-year-old Sultan will remain in Malaysia for several days of rest as per his doctors’ recommendations before returning to Brunei.
The Sultan was admitted to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur after experiencing fatigue during last week’s ASEAN summit in the Malaysian capital.
The exact date of his return to Brunei remains unspecified. The statement also mentioned that the Queen and other royal family members are accompanying him during this time.
In addition to being Sultan, he holds several key positions in Brunei, including Prime Minister, Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Defense.
Under his rule, Brunei achieved full independence from Britain in 1984 and has seen a significant rise in living standards, making it one of the highest in Asia.
