China: Macron’s Comparison of Taiwan Situation to Ukraine Is Unacceptable

China has expressed strong disapproval of comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron, who likened the situation in Ukraine to that of Taiwan. The Chinese embassy in Singapore, where Macron made his remarks, stated, “Drawing parallels between the Taiwan issue and the Ukraine conflict is unacceptable; the two situations are fundamentally different and cannot be compared in any way.” The Chinese Foreign Ministry also emphasized on Facebook, “There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory.”

In the latest developments concerning the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported yesterday, citing the Ministry of Defense, that Russian forces have taken control of two villages in eastern Ukraine: Novobil and Vodolahi, located in the Donetsk and Sumy regions, respectively.

Furthermore, authorities in Sumy have issued mandatory evacuation orders for eleven villages due to ongoing shelling and fears of a Russian offensive in the area. The regional administration of Sumy stated, “This decision has been made in light of the ongoing threat to civilian lives due to shelling in border towns.”

Ukrainian officials reported that a Russian airstrike in southern Ukraine resulted in the deaths of a man and a nine-year-old girl during two separate attacks overnight. Ivan Fedorov, the head of the regional military administration in Zaporizhzhia, noted, “The Russians bombed a residential area with guided bombs,” leading to the girl’s death and injuring a sixteen-year-old boy.

Additionally, the explosion destroyed one house and damaged several others. In a separate assault on the city of Kherson, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported on Telegram that a 66-year-old man sustained injuries that ultimately led to his death due to Russian shelling.

The mayor of Kharkiv reported one injury from a Russian drone strike. Conversely, Ukrainian drone attacks in Russia resulted in injuries to ten individuals in the Kursk region overnight, according to acting governor Alexander Khinshtein.

Moreover, Torsten Frei, head of the German Chancellery, called for a thorough examination of whether frozen Russian government assets in the European Union could be seized for the benefit of Ukraine. In remarks to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, he responded to a question about whether Ukraine should receive those funds, stating, “Every sense of justice leads to the necessity of this matter in light of the immense destruction and humanitarian suffering caused by Russia in Ukraine. We are witnessing the most intense shelling since the war began, so it is fair to use Russian funds for defense purposes.
