Iran Appoints Mousavi as Chief of Staff and Pakpour as IRGC Commander

The Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, appointed Major General Abd al-Rahim Mousavi as the new Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces on Friday, succeeding General Mohammad Bagheri.

According to the Mehr news agency, the appointment followed the death of Bagheri, prompting Khamenei to issue a decree designating Mousavi for the role.

Additionally, Khamenei appointed General Mohammad Pakpour as the new Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, following the death of General Hossein Salami, and promoted him to the rank of “General.”

Earlier on Friday, Israel launched a significant airstrike targeting Iran, aiming at nuclear facilities and military sites, including the Natanz facility and various locations associated with the Revolutionary Guards in Tehran and Isfahan.

The airstrikes resulted in the deaths of IRGC Commander Hossein Salami and Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri, as well as several nuclear scientists, as reported by both Israeli and Iranian media outlets.

In response, Iran launched 100 drones towards Israel, which later claimed to have intercepted all of them.
