Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE as well as the Ruler of Dubai, has officially initiated the construction of the first station for the Blue Line of the Dubai Metro.

Future Plans: RTA is also looking into a new Gold Line for the Dubai Metro.

Details of this announcement were shared on the official X account of the Ruler of Dubai.

The anticipated total benefits from the Blue Line are estimated at Dhs56 billion.

This station is expected to become a significant addition to Dubai’s skyline as it will be the inaugural station on the Blue Line.

The Blue Line will cover a distance of 30 kilometers, increasing the overall length of Dubai’s rail network to 131 kilometers, featuring 78 stations.

The new Blue Line will improve transportation in the city by linking essential residential and commercial districts, including areas like Dubai Creek Harbour, Festival City, Mirdif, and Dubai Silicon Oasis.

This line will comprise a mix of underground and elevated segments, with 14 stations spread across its 30-kilometer pathway. Three prominent interchange stations will be included: Al Khor (Green Line), Centrepoint (Red Line), and International City (1).

A highlight of this project will be a distinctive station at Dubai Creek Harbour, crafted by the renowned firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), which will feature a remarkable architectural design.

It is projected that this station will serve as a central hub, catering to 160,000 passengers daily by the year 2040.

Additionally, the Blue Line will introduce the first-ever Metro crossing over Dubai Creek, utilizing a stunning 1,300-meter bridge, adding both aesthetic and practical significance to the infrastructure.

Advantages of the Blue Line

The Blue Line is projected to alleviate traffic congestion in prominent areas by 20%, enhance property values near stations by as much as 25%, and provide direct access between major hubs like Dubai International Airport (DXB) and residential neighborhoods. Al Tayer highlighted that this new line will also facilitate faster travel times, ranging from 10 to 25 minutes across various locations.

Moreover, the line will be part of Dubai’s wider urban development strategy, which includes the ‘20-Minute City’ concept aimed at ensuring over 80% of services are reachable within a 20-minute journey.

The Blue Line is expected to support areas projected to accommodate nearly one million residents by 2040, encompassing vital developments like Dubai Creek Harbour, Festival City, and International City.
