The Human Resources Department of the Dubai Government (DGHR) has unveiled the launch of the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ program throughout all government bodies in Dubai, following a successful trial in 2024.

This initiative aims to enhance work-life balance and will be active from July 1 to September 12, 2025, with implementation tailored to the needs of each government department.

Details of the Flexible Working Program

Employees will be offered two types of flexible work schedules that conform to the standard five-day workweek. The first option will require employees to work eight hours from Monday to Thursday, allowing Fridays as a day off.

The second option involves a seven-hour workday from Monday to Thursday, concluding with a 4.5-hour shift on Friday, as reported by the Dubai Media Office.

Positive Outcomes from the 2024 Pilot

According to DGHR, the pilot program that included 21 government entities in 2024 resulted in increased productivity, improved workplace climates, and a significant surge in employee satisfaction, reaching as high as 98 percent. Assessments under the Dubai Government Excellence Programme also indicated notable enhancements in performance among involved departments.

The wider adoption of ‘Our Flexible Summer’ aligns with Dubai’s 2025 ‘Year of Community’ objectives, reflecting a strategic intention to cultivate a more adaptable, family-friendly work environment within the government. Officials assert that this initiative aims to bolster social connections and foster a well-balanced, human-centered governance model.

Focus on Employee-Centric Policies

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, the Director General of DGHR, highlighted that this expansion illustrates Dubai’s dedication to the well-being of its employees.

“This initiative signifies our strategic focus on prioritizing people in government policy,” Al Falasi noted. “It builds upon the successful results of last year’s test and aids in developing a government structure that aligns institutional efficiency with individual well-being. Our objective is to excel in providing flexible, sustainable, and people-oriented public services.”
