Five individuals have lost their lives in West Virginia due to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall. According to reports from a local news outlet, intense wind and rainfall impacted various regions of the state over the weekend.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey issued a statement confirming the fatalities and reported that three individuals are still unaccounted for. He noted that several structures have collapsed as a result of the flooding.
Local authorities provided an update, stating that search and rescue operations for the missing persons are ongoing, facilitated by drones, search and rescue dogs, and emergency response teams.
Furthermore, the National Weather Service has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas and has issued warnings about potential flash flooding.
