His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the graduation ceremony for the second cohort of students from the Sharjah Academy of Maritime Transport, which took place yesterday morning at the academy’s theater in Khorfakkan, with a total of 23 graduates.
In his speech, His Highness extended his congratulations to the parents and guardians of the graduates, saying, “Your joy today is equal to our joy as those who have imparted beneficial knowledge to your beloved children.”
He emphasized the pride not only in the graduates but also in the parents who believed in their children’s capabilities. He noted that the academy specializes in maritime transport and is distinct from typical institutions, as graduates here gain knowledge that extends beyond classrooms to the vast oceans, reflecting on the patience of parents waiting for their children during this journey.
His Highness highlighted the hard work demonstrated by the students during their practical training, noting no complaints were received from this particular group while they were at sea or navigating busy waterways. He remarked, “We have supported them through our prayers and our persistent efforts with the institutions involved, placing them on ships amidst workers and challenges, and they have lived up to our expectations.”
He mentioned that the success of the practical training of the graduates is a significant achievement and a source of personal motivation for him, given his confidence in their ability to face various challenges during their deep-sea training due to the high-quality programs offered by the academy. “Many fear even the sound of waves, so imagine these young flowers. Our hearts are with them in every training,” he expressed.
“These graduates have been imparted valuable skills and self-confidence through their professors and the administration, enabling them to reach this outstanding level,” he noted. “Congratulations to you and us for your children and for our academy, which is now regarded as among the best in the world.”
His Highness also praised the exceptional caliber of the graduates, stating that leading companies in the maritime sector take pride in them. “This recognition is not achieved through my words or financial contribution; it is the result of the foundational support from families and educators,” he added.
He announced the expansion of the academy’s offerings to include graduate programs for master’s and doctoral degrees. Furthermore, he expressed his pride in the academy’s readiness to establish scientific collaboration with countries worldwide, noting that the academy’s certifications have been recognized by no less than 10 global institutions, prompting many nations to seek training opportunities for their students at the academy.
His Highness concluded by highlighting the substantial advancements within Sharjah and its commitment to education and knowledge across all areas, which is reflected in scientific production and contributions to community life. “This advancement is one of life’s significant gains,” he stated.
The graduation ceremony commenced with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, followed by readings from the Holy Qur’an and the procession of graduates arriving at the stage.
Dr. Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Director of the Sharjah Academy of Maritime Transport, then delivered a speech congratulating His Highness on the graduation of the second batch of students.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi proceeded to present diplomas to the 23 graduates from the bachelor’s programs in Marine Engineering Technology and Maritime Transport, congratulating them on their success and wishing them well for their future careers.
In related news, His Highness also chaired the Board of Trustees meeting at the academy’s headquarters, where the board approved the graduation of these 23 students who completed their studies and practical training, earning their bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, the council approved designs for a charitable building that will support the academy, envisioned as a residential structure covering 929 square meters.
The council also approved the launch of a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Business Management as the latest offering from the academy, which aims to achieve international recognition for its programs. Furthermore, it adopted new academic regulations and introduced a new department focused on strategic planning.
The council commended all the administrative and academic efforts made in recent times, especially regarding student practical training and its enhancement, ensuring that graduates are prepared to meet global standards upon entering the workforce.
