In light of heightened regional tensions following attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, has engaged in multiple high-level discussions with leaders from around the world and the region. These talks, involving figures such as the leaders of Oman, France, Italy, and other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), concentrated on averting further escalation and promoting diplomatic avenues to maintain stability in the region.
On June 22, Sheikh Mohamed had conversations with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Each leader voiced significant apprehension regarding the potential for serious fallout as a result of the recent attacks on Iran, as noted in a report by WAM.
Calls for Immediate De-escalation
During these discussions, there was a shared recognition of the pressing need to enhance international efforts to prevent any escalation. The leaders emphasized that it is essential to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to effectively address the crisis and avert further instability in the region.
According to the UAE’s official news agency, these leaders reiterated their common objective of sustaining regional peace and protecting civilians from the extensive effects of conflict.
UAE Foreign Ministry: Necessity for Diplomatic Efforts
In a different announcement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed similar worries about the rising tensions, particularly regarding the recent assaults on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The ministry cautioned about the likelihood of “serious repercussions” and called for immediate de-escalation. It stressed the vital role of diplomatic and comprehensive solutions that promote stability, prosperity, and justice.
Additionally, the Ministry urged the international community to intensify its efforts toward peaceful resolutions and called upon the United Nations and the UN Security Council to step up their responsibilities during this crucial time for the region.
FANR: UAE is Not at Risk of Nuclear Threat
Amid concerns regarding the nuclear aspects of the ongoing conflict, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) reassured the public that the recent developments in Iran posed no threats to the UAE.
FANR stated it is collaborating with international organizations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to closely monitor the situation. The agency also encouraged residents to rely on official sources for information and to avoid sharing unverified rumors.
Qatar and Saudi Arabia Call for Calm
The State of Qatar has also reacted to the situation, expressing regret over the worsening stability in the region following the bombings of Iranian nuclear sites. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned of possible “catastrophic consequences” if tensions are not managed properly.
In a statement reported by Qatar News Agency (QNA), Qatar urged all involved parties to exercise restraint and to focus on diplomatic conversations to prevent further escalation.
Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, engaged in separate discussions with leaders of GCC member states, including the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.
These talks revolved around regional developments following Israeli airstrikes on Iran which were reportedly supported by the United States, focusing on nuclear facilities.

“The GCC member states stand unified during these challenging times,” a joint statement declared, asserting that all initiatives must aim to prevent additional deterioration of the situation.
