Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of concluding the Israeli conflict in Gaza within the coming week, despite Israel’s announcement of an escalation in its military operations in the region.
Trump conveyed his hope for a “ceasefire in Gaza next week,” emphasizing that he would take a “firm” stance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the cessation of hostilities during Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington on Monday.
Israeli envoy Ron Dermer, a close ally of Netanyahu, is currently in Washington to discuss a potential ceasefire. Meanwhile, Israel’s military efforts intensified yesterday, resulting in the deaths of over 50 Palestinians and injuring many others.
According to Israeli and American sources reported by the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz,” a new proposal is being considered which includes political concessions for Israel in exchange for ending the conflict in Gaza. This might include a Syrian declaration to normalize relations with Israel.
The proposal’s initial phase involves the release of ten living Israeli prisoners, followed by negotiations on foundational principles for ending the war, with an official ceasefire and the release of remaining prisoners to be announced later.
