The Kremlin announced yesterday that Russian President Vladimir Putin held an “important” phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, including issues related to Iran, as well as other international matters. This marked their first communication of this nature since September 2022.
Putin emphasized the importance of respecting Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and affirmed the necessity for Iran to continue abiding by its commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Macron also reiterated the importance of Iran adhering to its obligations under the treaty and cooperating fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Additionally, the foreign ministers of the G7 nations released a joint statement expressing their support for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, urging a resumption of negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
In their statement, the G7 foreign ministers stated, “We call for the resumption of negotiations that will lead to a comprehensive, verifiable, and lasting agreement addressing Iran’s nuclear program.”
