Following reckless behavior that endangers others, the Dubai police apprehended an Asian young man who was recorded in a video driving in a dangerous and irresponsible manner. He was seen overtaking vehicles from the road shoulder at high speeds, putting both his life and that of other road users at significant risk.
Major General Saif Mahir Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Traffic Department, stated that traffic patrols immediately tracked the video footage showing the driver operating his vehicle with excessive speed and extreme recklessness.
He emphasized that such dangerous behaviors pose a blatant challenge to the law and demonstrate a disregard for human lives. He stressed that sharing these types of videos encourages others to mimic such actions, leading to increased incidents of reckless driving. He also noted that this perilous behavior not only constitutes a serious traffic violation but also indirectly incites teenagers or unaware individuals to replicate such actions, thereby harming the community and undermining efforts to promote road safety culture.
Additionally, he reported that specialized teams within the General Traffic Department successfully identified and apprehended the driver in a remarkably short time. Legal measures were taken against him, including vehicle confiscation and the application of Local Decree No. 30 of 2023, which mandates fines of up to 50,000 AED for recovering vehicles involved in severe traffic violations. The driver was referred to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
Major General Al Mazrouei pointed out that such actions directly threaten the safety and security of road users. Traffic statistics revealed that over 80% of drivers committing serious violations, such as reckless overtaking and speeding, were involved in fatal accidents or incidents resulting in severe injuries.
The Director of the General Traffic Department urged community members to support police efforts in enhancing road safety by reporting hazardous driving behaviors through the “Police Eye” app, the “We All Police” service, or by calling the non-emergency number 901. He reaffirmed that creating a safe traffic environment is a collective responsibility that requires community cooperation with the relevant authorities.
Major General Al Mazrouei confirmed that Dubai police will continue to implement the latest technologies and smart systems to monitor violators and surveil roadways around the clock. They will also maintain awareness campaigns alongside enforcement actions to ensure the preservation of lives and property, warning that the law will be strictly enforced against anyone who jeopardizes road safety.
