The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is in the process of completing a significant traffic improvement initiative at the Dubai Healthcare City exit (Street 13), with a target completion date set for July 20, 2025. This upgrade is part of ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing traffic flow and increasing the efficiency of Dubai’s road infrastructure.
The project entails converting the currently stop-controlled exit into a free-flowing system by incorporating a new acceleration lane that will lead to the junction of Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Road. Furthermore, the existing service road will be expanded from one lane to two over a span of 500 meters. This development aims to accommodate vehicles coming from Al Riyadh Street heading towards the busy junction of Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Road, according to a report from the Dubai Media Office.

Per the RTA, these enhancements are part of a wider strategy to boost road network capacity, improve traffic safety, and align with Dubai’s objective of becoming a smart, sustainable, and well-connected city. The upgrades are particularly vital in heavily trafficked zones like Dubai Healthcare City and Oud Metha, which are home to hospitals, clinics, schools, residential areas, and commercial enterprises.
Expected capacity doubling at critical exit
Upon completion, the renovated exit is anticipated to double its traffic capacity to 3,000 vehicles per hour, and average waiting times may decrease by up to 50 percent. These modifications will considerably alleviate congestion during peak hours and facilitate a smoother flow of vehicles for those departing the area.
The RTA has already executed enhancements in nearby sectors, which includes adding acceleration and deceleration lanes between Umm Hurair and Oud Metha. Additionally, the service road exit to Umm Hurair Road was expanded from two lanes to three, resulting in a 50 percent increase in capacity and reducing congestion by over 40 percent during peak travel times.
