Abu Dhabi Unveils Hub71+ Life Sciences Initiative to Enhance Biotech and Medtech Industries

Hub71, the global technology ecosystem based in Abu Dhabi, has introduced Hub71+ Life Sciences, a new dedicated initiative focused on expediting innovation and commercialization in the fields of biotechnology, medical technology, and digital health.

This initiative enhances Abu Dhabi’s status as a global center for healthcare and life sciences by providing founders with direct access to regulators, healthcare facilities, investors, and industry partners.

Announced during Hub71’s yearly Impact Event, Hub71+ Life Sciences offers startups a well-structured entry point into the rapidly growing medical innovation sector in the UAE capital.

Entrepreneurs can tap into Abu Dhabi’s integrated health cluster for clinical validation, regulatory assistance, and market access, facilitating the translation of research into patient-ready solutions.

Hub71+ Life Sciences Promotes Healthcare Advancement

“Since its inception in 2019, Hub71 has assisted numerous startups that have significantly influenced Abu Dhabi’s innovation landscape,” stated Ahmad Ali Alwan, CEO of Hub71. “With Hub71+ Life Sciences, we are utilizing that experience to create a dedicated environment where founders, researchers, market stakeholders, and investors can collaborate to foster healthcare innovation.”

This ecosystem is established in partnership with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE), and the HELM cluster (Health, Endurance, Longevity, and Medicine). This alliance highlights Abu Dhabi’s ambition to create a high-performing life sciences economy built on advanced research and sustainable healthcare practices.

The DoH, EDE, and HELM cluster by the Abu Dhabi Investment Organization (ADIO) are joining as founding partners, while the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA), Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and Ultrahuman serve as anchor partners. Overall, 12 partners will collaborate with startups to identify investment opportunities and expedite the commercialization of groundbreaking medical technologies.

“As a founding partner, EDE is committed to partnering with innovators to engage early with regulatory bodies, clarify evidence expectations, and utilize collaborative pathways, ensuring that safe and effective solutions reach patients more swiftly,” explained Dr. Shaikha Al Mazrouei, director of the Reference National Laboratory, Drug Department, at EDE. “Through Hub71+ Life Sciences, we aspire to transform strong scientific research into clear regulatory submissions, accelerate product approvals, and promote international recognition for items developed in the UAE.”

This launch is propelled by the progress of startups like BioSapien, Ovasave, and Biotwin, focusing on oncology, fertility, and AI-driven medical solutions, showcasing Abu Dhabi’s increasing capability in translational research and innovation infrastructure.

Hub71+ Life Sciences intends to link regulators, corporations, investors, and entrepreneurs to foster collaboration, enhance regulatory efficiency, and facilitate access to funding, clinical trials, and proof-of-concept initiatives.

The objective is to bolster research output and establish Abu Dhabi as a competitive international hub for life sciences innovation.

Hub71 currently supports nearly 300 startups that have collectively secured Dhs9bn in funding and generated Dhs5bn in revenue. The introduction of Hub71+ Life Sciences adds to the existing array of sector-focused ecosystems, including Hub71+ Digital Assets, Hub71+ ClimateTech, and Hub71+ AI.

Startups engaged in biotech, medtech, and digital health are invited to apply for inclusion in Hub71+ Life Sciences and to become part of Abu Dhabi’s growing innovation community.

Hub71 Impact Event Introduces New Initiatives

During the Hub71 Impact Event 2025, themed “Impactful Momentum,” the organization also announced a series of new partnerships and programs aimed at propelling the next phase of innovative growth in Abu Dhabi.

Hub71 introduced Initiate, a program designed to enable early-stage founders to turn ambitious ideas into viable startups based in Abu Dhabi. In collaboration with global venture builders SC Ventures and VentureOne, Initiate offers hands-on support for venture-building to validate ideas, refine business models, and prepare founders for scalability, positioning Abu Dhabi as one of the few global locales providing a full pathway from concept to market-ready venture.

The Impact Event also marked the expansion of Hub71+ AI, which welcomed 15 new strategic partners, including the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) and BECO Capital as anchor partners. This growth strengthens Abu Dhabi’s aspirations to become the world’s first AI-native government by 2027 and a global hub for responsible AI innovation.

In addition, Hub71 announced fresh collaborations with the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA) and Numou, boosting access to pilot funding, working capital, and entrepreneurial support. Through its partnership with ECA, Hub71 will incorporate the Anjal Z initiative into its Access Programme, securing Dhs3m in pilot funding and offering up to Dhs500,000 in incentives for startups focused on early childhood solutions.

Simultaneously, the collaboration with Numou, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), introduces procurement financing options for SMEs to enhance liquidity and promote business expansion.

“Abu Dhabi’s technology ecosystem is continually shaped by a unified aim of fostering impact through innovation and collaboration,” remarked Alwan. “The initiatives revealed today underscore our progress in broadening opportunities for founders and entrepreneurs, reasserting Abu Dhabi’s role as a key player in technology development.”

The event also showcased Abu Dhabi’s increasing international ties, with eight promising Web3 startups from Hong Kong joining Hub71 via the Hub71 x Hong Kong Immersion Programme.

This initiative further establishes Abu Dhabi as a key entry point for global startups looking to expand into the Middle East.
