Agreement to Promote Industrial and Economic Growth in the UAE

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Multinational Companies Business Group (MCBG) aimed at enhancing partnerships in standardization, technical regulations, and capacity building—key elements for promoting industrial and economic growth in the UAE.

This MoU was formalized during the Make it in the Emirates forum and was signed by Dr. Farah Al Zarooni, Assistant Undersecretary for Standardization Affairs at MoIAT, and Turki Bin Moammar, Chairperson of MCBG.

The signing event gathered high-ranking officials and stakeholders from both entities, highlighting the importance of this alliance for the industrial and regulatory landscape of the nation.

This strategic partnership demonstrates a mutual commitment to enhancing regulatory collaboration and creating a business environment that aligns with the highest international standards. The agreement includes initiatives such as expert exchanges, capacity-building activities, involvement in standardization committees, and cooperation on projects focused on innovation.

In remarks regarding the collaboration, Dr. Farah Al Zarooni said, “This agreement highlights our dedication to strengthening engagement with the private sector, especially with leading global industries present in the UAE. It is essential to align our regulatory and standardization frameworks with global best practices to drive sustainable industrial growth and innovation in line with the UAE’s strategic vision.”

Turki Bin Moammar remarked, “MCBG is excited to work alongside MoIAT to advance mutual goals related to knowledge exchange, high-quality standards, and future-ready regulatory frameworks. This MoU reflects our commitment to advancing the industrial and economic development of the UAE through meaningful dialogue and cooperation.”

MCBG represents a collective global market capitalization exceeding $12 trillion and brings extensive expertise across vital sectors like manufacturing, energy, technology, healthcare, and consumer goods.

The signing of this agreement signifies a crucial step in MoIAT’s initiative to build a robust, innovation-driven industrial ecosystem. It further emphasizes the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving regulatory excellence, enhancing national competitiveness, and fostering long-term sustainable development.

Earlier, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in the UAE, announced a MoU with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) to bolster the growth of national manufacturing by increasing demand for quality locally-produced goods in line with the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ (MIITE) initiative.

The signing ceremony at Adnoc headquarters in Abu Dhabi included the participation of Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Omar Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and other notable leaders from Majid Al Futtaim – Retail and the UAE retail sector.

This partnership builds upon Carrefour’s commitment to supporting local suppliers, producers, farmers, and SMEs, affirming MoIAT’s and Majid Al Futtaim Retail’s joint goal to enhance national businesses while driving economic growth and food security through sustainable supply chain development.

Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary of Industry Accelerators at MoIAT, stated, “The UAE has made impressive strides in the industrial sector, ranking first regionally for industrial competitiveness, which is part of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology and its associated initiatives aimed at fostering partnerships, supporting investments, and promoting high-quality national products.”

He added, “This framework facilitates growth, helps achieve industrial sector objectives, and offers opportunities for existing projects and firms to develop and expand in collaboration with the private sector.”

The fourth edition of Make it in the Emirates, the UAE’s leading industrial forum, recently wrapped up at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre after a four-day event.

This year’s iteration announced new industrial projects valued at AED 11 billion.

Under the theme “Advanced Industries. Accelerated,” the event was conducted by MoIAT, organized by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company Group, and held in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Abu Dhabi Investment Office, and Adnoc.
