Amazon has opted to take a direct equity stake in Valu, the financial services division of EFG Holding, following its entry into the Egyptian Exchange (EGX).

The renowned e-commerce firm will acquire an estimated 3.95% of Valu’s shares, completing the purchase via the EGX’s block trade system at a share price of EGP 6.041. This transaction is set to transpire in Valu’s inaugural trading session, contingent upon obtaining the required regulatory approvals.

This development is a continuation of a 2022 agreement where Amazon invested $10 million in global depositary receipts (GDRs) of EFG Holding. Under that agreement, Amazon gained the option to convert its investment into a 4.255% stake in Valu, a condition now fulfilled with Valu’s market launch.

Karim Awad, CEO of EFG Holding Group, celebrated Amazon’s move as a significant endorsement of EFG’s capability to nurture and expand innovative initiatives in the region.

“We are pleased to see Amazon’s choice to invest directly in Valu,” stated Awad. “This achievement reflects our commitment to generating long-term value and emphasizes Valu’s contribution to enhancing financial inclusion and digital advancement in Egypt.”

Walid Hassouna, CEO of Valu, expressed similar sentiments, highlighting the company’s focus on customer satisfaction and flexibility within the evolving financial environment.

“This achievement is a strong indication of the robustness of our business model,” Hassouna remarked. “We are devoted to empowering both individuals and businesses through innovative financial solutions.”

Maged El Ayouti, co-head of Investment Banking at EFG Hermes, praised the firm’s role in facilitating the Amazon investment and guiding Valu through its transition to the public market.

“From securing Amazon’s strategic investment to preparing for Valu’s debut on the EGX, we take pride in supporting the company’s transformative growth,” he stated.

Valu was officially listed on the EGX on May 21, 2025, with trading commencing on June 23, 2025.

EFG Hermes served as the exclusive financial advisor to both EFG Holding and Valu throughout this transaction.
