Attention Content Creators: UAE Prolongs Deadline for Advertiser Permits

The Media Council of the UAE has announced an extension of the time frame for social media influencers and advertisers to apply for ‘Advertiser Permits’ until January 31, 2026. This move underscores the nation’s commitment to enhancing and regulating the advertising industry.

Initially rolled out in July 2025, the initiative has experienced significant uptake, with over 1,800 permits issued to individuals and businesses from 75 nations by September 2025. This reflects a robust global interest in the UAE’s systematic approach to advertising content production, according to the council’s media release.

The influx of permit applications is driving essential goals for the UAE’s advertising industry. These include fostering investment in content creation, boosting competitiveness in the digital advertising sphere, attracting and nurturing creative professionals, and protecting the public from content that does not meet established standards and societal norms.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, noted the significance of the initiative: “The issuance of over 1,800 ‘Advertiser’ permits from 75 countries demonstrates that our framework aligns with the needs of advertisers on social media, whether they are individuals or businesses.”

Launch of the Advertiser Permit Guide 2025

In support of this strategy, the council has introduced the Advertiser Permit Guide 2025, a detailed framework aimed at governing advertising content on social media. This guide outlines the process for citizens, residents, visitors, and businesses to obtain the permit once they meet certain eligibility criteria. It also names the designated authorities in each emirate tasked with issuing permits and specifies the range of business activities eligible, including advertising services via websites and social media, e-commerce, and marketing management.

“The ‘Advertiser Permit Guide’ delivers a concise and clear framework for creatives and enterprises operating in the advertising sector,” Al Shehhi stated. “It promotes registration, ensuring that the production of advertisements in the digital arena complies with the regulatory framework. This allows advertisers to capitalize on the unique opportunities the UAE offers on both regional and global scales, given its skilled workforce, resources, and investments.”

The guide clarifies the types of permits available: annual permits for citizens and residents that can be renewed each year, and three-month permits for visiting advertisers, which can be extended to a maximum of six months. This structure aims to attract direct investments into the UAE’s expanding advertising field while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.

This permit initiative aligns with the UAE’s comprehensive strategy to foster a flexible regulatory landscape that keeps pace with the rapid changes in the media sector. By improving content quality and encouraging investments, this effort seeks to attract talented professionals in content creation while also protecting the rights of both society and content creators.

Positioning the UAE as a Global Advertising Hub

Al Shehhi also emphasized the broader economic and creative benefits of the initiative: “The UAE is continuously working towards establishing a dynamic, integrated media environment that empowers creatives, attracts talent, and stimulates investments, yielding sustainable benefits for everyone involved.”

By establishing a clear and organized framework for the creation of advertising content, the UAE Media Council is positioning the country as a prominent global center for digital advertising. This initiative not only bolsters the credibility of the sector but also ensures that advertising practices adhere to standards of transparency, professionalism, and cultural compatibility, setting new benchmarks for excellence within the industry.

With the deadline for permit applications now extended into early 2026, industry experts expect sustained growth in applications and investments, indicating a promising trajectory for the UAE’s digital advertising market.
