In an effort to enhance international collaboration and sustainable development, the United Arab Emirates has appointed Badr Jafar as its Special Envoy for Business and Philanthropy.
The announcement was made by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, as part of the nation’s initiative to foster stronger connections between government sectors, businesses, and philanthropic efforts.
The objective of Jafar’s position is to elevate the UAE’s interactions with global business and charitable organizations, highlighting its dedication to innovation, investment, and social advancement.
In response to his new appointment, Jafar expressed his deep appreciation and underscored the necessity for courageous, collective actions to confront worldwide issues.
This role supports the UAE’s strategic goals, including initiatives like ‘We the UAE 2031’ and ‘Centennial 2071’, reinforcing the country’s aim to be a pivotal center for sustainable finance and economic diplomacy.
In the first three quarters of 2024, the UAE’s non-oil industries expanded by 4.5 percent, contributing to nearly 75 percent of the country’s real GDP, showcasing the strength of its private sector and diversified economy.
Additionally, the UAE ranks among the top ten on the World Giving Index for 2024, illustrating its commitment to both economic progress and philanthropic engagement.
Key objectives of the Special Envoy role include:
• CONNECTING: Promoting engagement and collaboration between the UAE’s private sector and government bodies, as well as with international private stakeholders.
• MOBILISING: Empowering business and philanthropic entities to advance the UAE’s diplomatic and strategic goals.
• ADVOCATING: Encouraging a unified understanding of the significance of cooperation among public, private, and philanthropic sectors and the potential to implement these collaborations effectively.
