Drake & Scull International (DSI), a prominent entity in the fields of MEP contracting and infrastructure services, has revealed its entry into the commercial real estate development sector following the acquisition of a key plot in Majan, Dubai. This strategic shift indicates the company’s intent to diversify its operations by embarking on the construction of a modern mixed-use commercial development from scratch.
A major shift in operational focus
This initiative represents a significant transformation in DSI’s business framework, moving from its conventional contracting role to that of a comprehensive developer. The venture underscores DSI’s ambition to enhance its revenue streams and make a mark in Dubai’s dynamic real estate market through ownership and development of premium assets.
“For many years, DSI has been recognized for its engineering prowess and large-scale construction endeavors. Today marks a transformative step as we venture into development, a natural evolution that enables us to capitalize on our extensive industry insights while generating enduring assets,” stated Muin El Saleh, CEO of DSI.
He added: “This undertaking goes beyond merely erecting a building; it symbolizes our determination and drive to adapt alongside market changes. By branching into development, we are not only creating new avenues for revenue but also reinforcing our brand and playing a role in Dubai’s urban evolution.”
Details of the commercial project
DSI’s inaugural development will cover more than 156,000 square feet of constructed area, incorporating over 10,000 square feet dedicated to premium retail space at ground level alongside more than 67,000 square feet of office space distributed across nine floors. The property will also feature a multi-level parking facility accommodating around 147 vehicles, ensuring accessibility for both tenants and visitors.
To meet rigorous design and construction standards, DSI has engaged Bel-Yoahah Architectural and Engineering Consultants as their design and oversight partner. Initial soil tests and topographic analyses have been completed, and the company is currently in the process of acquiring construction permits. The target for project completion is set for the close of 2026.
Vision for sustainable growth
“Our background in executing complex projects equips us with a distinct advantage as we embark on this new path,” El Saleh remarked. “We have an understanding of the nuances involved in construction, cost management, and quality assurance, all of which are vital factors that will distinguish our developments. This project marks the inception of a new strategic trajectory for DSI, and it is merely the first among many developments we intend to pursue as the company evolves into a more diversified and progressive entity.”
By overseeing the entire development process—from land acquisition to project completion—DSI aims to optimize value creation and draw on its extensive experience in engineering and construction. The company’s move into real estate development is indicative of its confidence in the UAE’s long-term economic outlook and its readiness to adapt to emerging market opportunities.
With this initial endeavor, DSI is establishing a foundation for a more substantial footprint in the property development arena, merging its operational strengths with a vision for creating next-generation commercial spaces in Dubai’s competitive real estate sector.
