Du, a telecommunications company based in the UAE, has distinguished itself as the first telecom operator in the country and the second in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to receive ISO 20400 certification, which is an internationally recognized standard for sustainable procurement.

This certification represents a significant advancement in du’s dedication to incorporating environmental, social, and economic sustainability within its supply chain and procurement practices.

It also supports the UAE’s initiative to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and aligns with the growing emphasis on responsible sourcing across various sectors.

“Earning the ISO 20400 certification marks a pivotal point in our commitment to sustainability and responsible practices that encompass our entire value chain,” stated Adel AlRais, who leads Corporate Communication & Protocol at du.

“This achievement aligns perfectly with the current trends in the market and integrates well with our overarching objectives as well as the national vision of the UAE,” added AlRais.

Du’s Procurement Strategy

The certification highlights du’s deployment of sophisticated supplier evaluation tools and its incorporation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its procurement strategy.

This initiative is anticipated to enhance trust among customers and stakeholders, who increasingly make decisions based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

For customers, this certification assures that du’s offerings rely on thoroughly vetted and ethically sourced materials. Suppliers gain access to defined sustainability standards and cooperative resources, while investors interpret this milestone as an indication of du’s capability in managing ESG-related risks and fostering long-term value.

This achievement was facilitated through collaborations with organizations focused on sustainability, including CRIF AG, Dubatt, and Aramex, all of which played a crucial role in establishing a more responsible and resilient supply chain for du.
