Dubai’s Culinary Center Embraces Technology: DP World and Parkin Launch Intelligent Parking Solution

DP World has announced a collaboration with Parkin to implement a fully automated smart parking solution at the Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market, which accommodates approximately 2,500 light vehicle parking spaces and an additional 500 for trucks.

This sophisticated system will incorporate license plate recognition technology along with real-time data analytics to provide barrier-free entry, thereby alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing overall traffic management in one of Dubai’s most bustling commercial areas.

As reported by Dubai Media Office, this initiative aims to improve the efficiency of high-traffic movements for market vendors and supply chain managers, optimizing operational performance across the facility.

The initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader Smart City objectives and the emirate’s long-term goal of evolving the Al Aweer site into the largest integrated food trading and logistics center globally. The completed project is anticipated to elevate Dubai’s status as a key international hub for fresh produce trading.

Improving Logistics Efficiency

Abdulla Bin Damithan, the CEO and managing director of DP World GCC, emphasized that the collaboration highlights the company’s commitment to advancing innovation beyond port operations. “Effective logistics extend beyond port boundaries, encompassing every aspect of the supply chain, from traffic management to the delivery of goods,” he noted. “In the perishables sector, time is critical. By teaming up with Parkin, we can enhance operations in one of the region’s busiest food marketplaces, making them more efficient and intelligent.”

Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, the CEO of Parkin, remarked that this partnership enables the application of their technology-driven parking solutions to a vital commercial hub in Dubai. “Implementing seamless barrierless parking at Al Aweer Market will help reduce congestion, streamline traffic flow, and maximize the effective use of parking facilities,” he said. “This advancement will directly benefit the numerous traders, logistics agents, and visitors who depend on the market daily, while also contributing to Dubai’s broader Smart City initiatives.”

The new system builds upon a 2023 agreement between Dubai Municipality and DP World to create the largest logistics center focused on food, fruits, and vegetables. This facility aims to expand the existing market’s size while linking this area to global markets, further establishing the city as one of the leading centers for international food trade in the Gulf region.
