Emirates Plans to Launch Individual Courier Express Service in Dubai Next Year

Emirates plans to launch its newly announced end-to-end courier express service for individuals starting next year, as shared by a senior official on Tuesday.

“The process is a bit more intricate due to the regulations surrounding individual-to-individual delivery. While we are not implementing that just yet, we expect to introduce it next year. Stay tuned,” remarked Dennis Lister, senior vice president of product and innovation at Emirates SkyCargo, during an interview.

Considering safety, the initial phase of the service will focus on known shippers to ensure complete integrity throughout the shipment process. “We are establishing the necessary procedures and processes for future expansions, likely starting in the UAE market first,” he added.

Earlier in the month, the Dubai-based airline unveiled Emirates Courier Express, a comprehensive delivery solution that aims to transform the express delivery experience for individuals.

Emirates Courier Express will utilize over 250 passenger and freighter aircraft to facilitate global package distribution.

“The key unique selling point of Emirates Courier Express is its ability to connect to any destination airport in the network, effectively bringing us closer to customers, which helps lower inventory costs at final destinations while accelerating delivery times,” Lister stated on the sidelines of the IATA World Cargo Symposium held in Dubai.

Lister mentioned that the initial response has been “incredible,” with numerous requests pouring in from interested customers.

“There is significant interest as we have launched the fastest integrated door-to-door cross-border parcel solution globally. Customers, whether they are large businesses or SMEs, are eager for innovative options in the market,” he said.

He explained that this premium product aims at consumers seeking rapid delivery. “People are looking for quick delivery options. When they shop online, they want to know how soon they can expect their product. We plan to collaborate with retailers to provide a door-to-door service, which can expedite the delivery process utilizing our extensive passenger fleet, given our numerous flights from major markets.”

Expanding to India, China, and Australia

Lister shared that Emirates operates over 138 flights weekly from the UK alone.

He pointed out that the service will launch using the passenger fleet, which enhances efficiency and speed, allowing access to more than 148 destinations. “This connectivity enables us to expedite package delivery in a seamless manner,” he noted.

He clarified that the program won’t be launched globally all at once, as it relies on partnerships. “We are leveraging local partners for the final mile and first-mile delivery capabilities in each market. These partners will handle shipments, fulfillment, clearance, and other essential functions,” he explained.

Currently, Emirates Courier Express is operational in seven markets, including the UK, South Africa, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, focusing on business needs.

“We are beginning with key markets before expanding further, as it requires careful consideration of resources, personnel, and timelines. India is the next significant market we are targeting, followed by China, which presents vast opportunities, and eventually the US. This is the path we are pursuing,” he shared.

Lister also indicated that Emirates Courier Express will facilitate delivery across various sectors, including technology and pharmaceuticals, with future capabilities extending to critical items such as blood and vaccine samples.

“We are able to handle a diverse range of products across different industries,” he added.

In select markets, Emirates Courier Express will offer same-day delivery services, taking advantage of its extensive network.
