Essential Updates for Pilgrims Ahead of Umrah 2025

Saudi Arabia is implementing a series of enhancements aimed at improving the spiritual and logistical experience for millions of pilgrims visiting the Two Holy Mosques. These efforts reflect a harmonious blend of technological advancements, hospitality, and spiritual inclusiveness.

As the Umrah season progresses, pilgrims arriving in Makkah and Madinah are greeted with a meticulously organized network of services that prioritize accessibility, historical engagement, and international outreach, ensuring that their journeys are both spiritually rewarding and well-structured.

Comprehensive system designed for millions

Central to this initiative is a well-integrated set of facilities and services tailored to manage the consistent flow of pilgrims, many of whom have begun arriving in substantial numbers. At Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, thousands of Umrah attendees are welcomed daily, with support teams providing transportation, guidance, and dining services to ensure a smooth arrival experience, according to a report from the Saudi Press Agency.

From the moment they arrive, pilgrims receive careful assistance from a network of authorities. “A comprehensive array of services guarantees a spiritually enriching and logistically seamless experience for every visitor,” stated an official from the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, responsible for overseeing both holy sites.

This supportive experience continues at the Prophet’s Mosque, where pilgrims from diverse backgrounds are met with multilingual assistance and logistical guidance in the prayer areas and surrounding courtyards. In line with the Kingdom’s initiative to enhance knowledge of Islamic heritage, visitors are encouraged to explore historical sites in Madinah, many of which date back to the era of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Improved access at the Grand Mosque: Gates, bridges, and mobility

In Makkah, the Grand Mosque, which houses the Kaaba, has introduced improved access points to streamline the flow of pilgrims and reduce congestion during busy periods. Five main gates, each adorned with recognizable minarets, serve as the primary entrances: King Abdulaziz Gate, King Fahd Gate, King Abdullah Gate, Umrah Gate, and Al-Fath Gate.

Among these, the King Fahd Gate, King Abdulaziz Gate, and Al-Salam Basement grant direct access to the Mataf area, where pilgrims perform the Tawaf ritual. For those entering from the upper levels, the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques recommends specific bridges, including Al-Shubaika, Ajyad, and Al-Arqam, all designed to efficiently manage high volumes of pedestrian traffic.

As worshippers exit from the Masa’a area, which lies between the hills of Safa and Marwah, they can use designated exits such as the Al-Safa Gate, Al-Marwah Gate, and Al-Nabi Gate, as well as specialized facilities like the Al-Marwah Wheelchair Bridge.

“These infrastructure enhancements are critical,” the authority emphasized. “They not only facilitate easy access within the mosque but are also essential for minimizing crowding and ensuring the safety of all visitors.”

Global reach: Sermons in 15 languages

In a concurrent initiative aimed at making the spiritual messages of the Two Holy Mosques more accessible to the worldwide Muslim community, the Religious Affairs Presidency has launched an ambitious translation program. Beginning August 1, 2025, Friday sermons from both the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque are being translated into 15 different languages, streamed live on the presidency’s official YouTube channel.

This milestone represents the first stage of a broader plan aiming to expand the initiative to 30 languages, allowing millions of non-Arabic-speaking Muslims to connect deeply with the impactful messages of faith, compassion, and moderation delivered in these sermons.

“Our objective is to promote moderate Islamic values and use modern technology to extend our reach,” explained Sheikh Dr Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, President of Religious Affairs for the Two Holy Mosques. “By providing translations, we are enabling Muslims across the globe to engage more profoundly with the teachings shared from these sacred locations.”

Unified vision for contemporary pilgrimage

The collective initiatives, from infrastructural improvements and hospitality services to digital spiritual outreach, illustrate a cohesive national vision: to make the pilgrimage experience more accessible, inclusive, and meaningful for everyone. Whether it’s a pilgrim navigating Madinah’s historic corridors, entering Makkah’s Mataf through a grand gate, or listening to a Friday sermon from afar in their native language, the Kingdom’s approach emphasizes both reverence and innovation.

With continuous preparations and collaboration among various authorities, Saudi Arabia is revolutionizing the pilgrimage experience, treating pilgrims not merely as visitors but as esteemed guests embarking on a sacred journey.
