Etihad Rail, United Trans, and Via Collaborate to Incorporate Rail Services into Citymapper App

Etihad Rail, United Trans, and Via have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to incorporate Etihad Rail services into the Citymapper app, enhancing the ease of multimodal travel throughout the UAE.

This collaboration aims to improve public transport accessibility, allowing users to plan routes that integrate Etihad Rail with metro, bus services, on-demand transit, and micromobility options, all within a single application.

Citymapper will offer real-time updates, optimized routing, and fare transparency, enabling travelers to evaluate different options, minimize transfer durations, and select the most efficient travel paths.

“This initiative showcases Etihad Rail’s dedication to developing a modern, interconnected transport system that enhances mobility for both residents and tourists,” stated Azza Alsuwaidi, deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility. She emphasized the role of rail as a fundamental element in the UAE’s public transportation framework.

Scheduled to commence in 2026, Etihad Rail’s passenger service will link 11 cities and regions across the UAE, accommodating up to 400 passengers per train at speeds reaching 200 km/h.

The agreement also looks into providing first- and last-mile connectivity utilizing Via’s on-demand technology, managed by United Trans, to ensure reliable access to rail services, lessen congestion, and encourage sustainable travel.

“United Trans is dedicated to promoting smart mobility solutions across the UAE,” asserted Raed Abu Hijleh. Chris Snyder, COO of Via, remarked that the initiative aims to unify the entire transit network into one integrated, user-friendly experience.

United Trans and Via have previously worked together on on-demand transport services in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman, with the integration of Citymapper marking a new step in their collaborative efforts.

Etihad Rail partners with Yango Group

In related news, Etihad Rail has also established an MoU with Yango Group to enhance passenger travel by merging Yango’s ride-hailing services with the upcoming Etihad Rail passenger network.

The partnership will involve coordinating logistical operations around train stations, including designated pick-up and drop-off areas, managing traffic during peak periods, and implementing clear procedures for seamless travel experiences.

The second phase of this collaboration will focus on digital integration, allowing travelers to purchase rail tickets through the Yango app or book Yango rides via Etihad Rail’s digital platforms.
