Authorities in Abu Dhabi have introduced new regulations aimed at maintaining the visual appeal of public spaces and enhancing the overall organization of the urban landscape.

Key Regulations

One of the main provisions prohibits residents from hanging laundry or cleaning carpets and other coverings on balconies or windows that face public streets in Abu Dhabi.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport announced on social media that violations of this rule could result in fines and administrative penalties reaching up to Dh2,000 for repeated offenses.

Penalties for Violations

Here are the specific fines associated with these violations:

  • First Offense: A fine of Dh500 for placing drying racks outside.
  • Second Offense: A fine of Dh1,000 for repeated violations.
  • Subsequent Offenses: A fine of Dh2,000 for further infractions.

Similar penalties will be applied to individuals who clean or display carpets or other items on balconies or windows that overlook public thoroughfares.

Residents have been consistently advised against airing laundry on apartment balconies or hanging items from windows or railings, as this practice detracts from the city’s aesthetic. The Abu Dhabi municipality has previously issued statements emphasizing that such actions are not permissible.

In addition to these laundry-related regulations, last month Abu Dhabi introduced measures to address the issue of abandoned and dirty vehicles left in public spaces. Vehicle owners may face significant fines for leaving their cars in a manner that negatively impacts the visual appearance of the area.
