Hong Kong’s chief executive has announced plans to head a delegation for a groundbreaking visit to Qatar and Kuwait this Saturday. For the first time, the delegation will consist of representatives from both Hong Kong and mainland China, aiming to strengthen business and cultural connections with the Middle East.
John Lee Ka-chiu shared this information on Tuesday, revealing that this trip marks his second official visit to the Middle East following his 2023 journey to Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. The focus of this visit will be on seeking new opportunities in finance, trade, and technology.
“This trip is significant as it includes not only members of the Hong Kong government, but also business leaders from the city and delegates from enterprises across mainland China,” Lee stated during a meeting with the city’s Executive Council.
The delegation will feature over 30 business leaders from Hong Kong’s trade and professional services sectors, alongside more than 20 entrepreneurs hailing from the mainland provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangdong.
Representatives from mainland China will come from diverse fields, including innovation and technology, new energy, finance, trade, and logistics. Lee highlighted that he plans to engage with local officials to ensure the delegation stays informed about the collaborative policy directions between Hong Kong and the governments of the two Gulf nations, while also enhancing mutual exchanges between their peoples.
