Qatar has issued a strong condemnation regarding a missile strike conducted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that targeted Al Udeid Air Base this evening. The attack was labeled as a clear infringement of Qatar’s sovereignty, violating its airspace and breaching international law, according to state-run news agency WAM.

In a statement from the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, the advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the incident as a “serious breach” of the United Nations Charter, asserting that Qatar retains the right to take action in response.

The official further noted that Qatari air defense systems successfully intercepted and neutralized the attacking missiles, avoiding any damage or casualties.

Situated southwest of Doha, Al Udeid Air Base accommodates US and allied military personnel and serves as a crucial asset for operations in the region.

This missile strike follows a period of escalated tensions in the Middle East, particularly in light of recent conflicts involving Israel and Iran, as well as a US attack on Iran’s vital nuclear enrichment sites.

In response to this situation, Qatar and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are advocating for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions.

Previously, the United Arab Emirates and the Secretary-General of the GCC denounced the attack, cautioning that it could lead to regional instability and calling for international measures to prevent further escalation.

Qatar Airways Temporarily Halts Flights

In connection to the events, Qatar Airways has declared a temporary suspension of its flight operations due to the closure of air traffic in Qatar.

The airline indicated in a statement on X that it is working alongside government entities and authorities to assist impacted travelers, affirming that it will resume flights once airspace is reopened.
