Jacques Houle, the President and CEO of NGU-Group, has announced the signing of an exclusive franchise development deal with Foodtastic for the expansion of Rotisseries Benny throughout Asia. NGU-Group plans to launch its first two restaurants in Shanghai this autumn and aims to establish a national footprint in China, marking the first Quebec restaurant chain to do so.

The initiative to expand into Asia is led by Jacques Houle, an accomplished entrepreneur from Boisbriand (Que.), who has a successful 30-year track record in China. He is well-known for introducing high-quality imported products into North America, including the Forno brand of premium appliances available throughout the continent. With his comprehensive understanding of the market and local customs, Houle believes there is a significant opportunity in a country with 1.4 billion residents.

“For over 50 years, Quebecers have consistently returned to Benny for its delicious chicken, flavorful BBQ sauces, and famous poutine,” said Jacques Houle. “Having been a loyal customer myself for years, I have seen firsthand that the Chinese people have a strong preference for roasted chicken. I am convinced that they will thoroughly enjoy our unique take on rotisserie chicken and the BBQ sauces that we have perfected over time.”

Driven by a passion for providing exceptional hospitality and cuisine, NGU-Group intends to create a robust franchise network in China, offering consumers a premium roasted chicken experience that has been cherished by Quebecers for over six decades.

“We are thrilled to partner with Jacques Houle and his team to introduce the Benny experience to diners in China,” remarked Peter Mammas, President and CEO of Foodtastic. “I recently visited Shanghai and observed how open and ready the market is for our rotisserie-style offerings. We are optimistic that customers across China will embrace the authentic recipes we have cultivated over the years.”

Established in 1960 by a family of poultry farmers, Benny has become a staple in Quebec, loyal to the traditions of its founding family and their secret recipes for succulent roasted chicken and distinctive BBQ sauces. Since being acquired by Foodtastic in 2019, Benny has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering top-quality chicken through a fast-service concept, making it accessible for families to enjoy a quality meal at reasonable prices.
