The UAE is positioning itself as a leader in the global landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and implementation. According to KPMG’s report on Trust in Artificial Intelligence Insights, residents in the UAE show greater involvement and assurance in AI compared to the worldwide average.
The research, performed in conjunction with the University of Melbourne and KPMG International, revealed that a remarkable 97% of respondents in the UAE utilize AI for various purposes including work, education, or personal use, outpacing their global counterparts significantly. Furthermore, 89% reported reaping the rewards of AI, in contrast to 83% globally. Additionally, 66% stated that their organizations have established policies for generative AI, showcasing the swift institutional uptake in the UAE.
This study categorizes the UAE as a benchmark for responsible AI engagement in the region. A significant 65% of participants expressed trust in AI-generated information, while more than half (53%) believed that the advantages of this technology surpass its associated risks.
Simultaneously, the findings indicate a growing awareness regarding the necessity of regulations and trust in AI technologies. Despite 68% of respondents considering the existing legal framework adequate for secure AI utilization—well above the global average of 43%—there is a notable demand for enhanced safety measures, particularly against misinformation. Nearly 73% expressed caution concerning online materials due to AI’s influence, and 36% felt unsure about distinguishing AI-generated misinformation.
Matin Jouzdani commented, “AI is swiftly transforming our lifestyles and work environments. Our findings indicate overwhelming acceptance of AI within the UAE; however, there is also significant public advocacy for suitable regulatory measures. As organizations in the UAE accelerate AI implementation, it is vital they consider the appropriate frameworks to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. By adopting a strategy that integrates AI training and awareness with responsible governance structures, businesses can confidently harness the advantages of AI without hindering innovation.”
The report also highlighted that 84% of respondents from the UAE would be more inclined to trust AI systems if they were assured of their ethical application. Moreover, 86% concurred that news and social media outlets should explicitly indicate when content is generated by AI. Respondents expressed the highest levels of trust in educational institutions, healthcare services, and governmental organizations to develop and apply AI responsibly.
