Return to School: RTA Recommendations for Bus Drivers and Transport Companies

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has called upon all school bus companies within the emirate to prepare for the upcoming academic year 2025–2026. In line with its goal of becoming “The World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility,” RTA is advocating for high service standards to ensure the safety of students of all age groups.

The RTA emphasizes that health and safety are fundamental components of its Back-to-School program. As part of this initiative, the authority has begun thorough inspections to confirm that school bus operators and schools are complying with transportation regulations and safety guidelines.

In its statement, the RTA highlighted that it prioritizes awareness regarding health and safety, noting these as critical parts of the Back-to-School initiative.

Specialized teams within the RTA are leading these inspections to ensure that transport operators adhere to Dubai’s laws on school transportation.

Ensuring Compliance and Student Safety

All school bus drivers are required to strictly follow traffic regulations, particularly in school zones and residential areas. Operators are reminded to avoid obstructing other vehicles, which aids in reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.

The RTA stated, “Drivers must also avoid hindering the flow of traffic, thereby assisting in minimizing congestion and ensuring smooth transit.”

To facilitate this, transport companies are instructed to execute comprehensive training programs for drivers and bus attendants. These training sessions emphasize professional interaction with students during their daily rides. Drivers are reminded to maintain the highest safety standards consistently.

Additionally, schools are expected to ensure that bus attendants accompany students to and from their nearest drop-off points, enhancing a safe and smooth travel experience.

Leveraging Modern Technologies and Reassuring Parents

The RTA also underscores the necessity of equipping school buses with advanced safety features. Bus operators are encouraged to maintain open communication channels with parents to ensure them of their children’s safety.

The authority mentioned, “Bus operators undergo driver training supervised by the RTA and commit to outfitting buses with vital safety elements and protocols. They also engage in regular communication with parents to allay any concerns about their children’s safety during commutes.”

The RTA reiterated its dedication to refining the school transportation network throughout Dubai, underscoring its importance in supporting educational institutions as well as the city’s wider mobility objectives.

The statement remarked, “RTA is focused on streamlining the daily operations of Dubai’s school transport sector, recognizing its critical role for the nation’s leadership and its importance to parents who place their trust in the safety and comfort provided by these services.”

As the academic year approaches, the RTA encourages students in Dubai to welcome the new year with enthusiasm and positivity, while it also restates the necessity of adhering to health and safety protocols for a successful school year.

MBRHE and Dubai Police Unveil Cheerful Back-to-School Campaign

In a related initiative, the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MBRHE), in collaboration with Dubai Police, has launched a joyous “Back to School” campaign in the Muhaisnah area on August 18, marking the academic year’s commencement.

This initiative is part of a broader series of community engagement strategies aimed at promoting education in a positive and secure environment, as reported by WAM.

Adding to the event’s excitement, Dubai Police mascots, Officer Mansour and Officer Amna, engaged with students and energized the atmosphere. A showcase of Dubai Police’s luxury patrol cars also captivated both children and parents, mixing enjoyment with essential lessons on safety awareness.

WAM reported, “The initiative included participation from Dubai Police mascots… fostering safety awareness among students and their families in a fun yet secure environment.”

As Dubai prepares for students to return to classrooms, authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure that safety, efficient traffic management, and community spirit take precedence during this back-to-school season.
