Ripple, Based in the US, Obtains License for Blockchain Payments in the UAE

Ripple has become the first payments provider powered by blockchain technology to receive authorization for its cross-border platform throughout the UAE.

Based in the US, Ripple has obtained licensing from the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), marking it as the inaugural blockchain-based payments provider allowed to operate its Ripple Payments platform across the UAE.

This approval enables Ripple to tap into the UAE’s $400 billion international trade market and its $40 billion annual remittance flow, allowing businesses to utilize expedited and cost-effective blockchain transactions under comprehensive regulatory supervision.

The license reinforces Ripple’s presence in the Middle East, a region that has comprised 20% of its global client base since it established its Dubai office in 2020. With the UAE’s advanced regulatory landscape, growing enterprise adoption, and tech-savvy population, Ripple plans to enhance the institutional use of digital currencies. A key element of this initiative is RLUSD, its upcoming stablecoin backed by the US dollar, which aims to provide secure and scalable settlement solutions for banks and fintech companies addressing the Gulf’s significant trade and remittance requirements.
