Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced a significant 20% increase in the number of nol card top-up transactions through digital channels in the first half of 2025, when compared to the same timeframe in 2024. This growth highlights the RTA’s ongoing commitment to digital transformation in public transportation and its efforts to improve customer experience.

The RTA attributes this surge to various initiatives, including the introduction of digital machines for ticket purchases and top-ups, heightened public awareness campaigns promoting the use of digital platforms such as its website and mobile applications, and an increase in the minimum top-up amount for nol cards at machines and ticket counters, according to a report by WAM.
Data from the RTA indicates that while there was an overall 28% reduction in top-up transactions via ticket vending machines, digital transactions through these machines experienced a growth of 20%. Simultaneously, cash transactions at ticket sales offices have decreased by 37%, and digital transactions in those locations saw a 6% drop, leading to a total 26% decline in transactions conducted through offices.
The RTA highlighted that this transition has resulted in shorter wait times and reduced operating expenses related to cash management. Furthermore, the shift away from cash has led to an 80% decrease in technical malfunctions of vending machines.
The authority reiterated that promoting digital solutions will remain a primary objective in enhancing Dubai’s public transportation framework.
