Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed and is currently working on 103 kilometers of internal roads in eight different residential and industrial zones, which include Al Khawaneej 2, Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1, Nad Al Sheba, Al Awir, Wadi Al Amardi, and Al Warqa’a.
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chair of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated that these projects reflect the leadership’s vision to enhance infrastructure in accordance with Dubai’s urban expansion.
The new roads incorporate features such as lighting, stormwater drainage systems, cycling paths, and parking facilities designed to enhance mobility and safety for users.
Completed RTA Road Projects
In the Al Khawaneej 2 area (also known as the Tolerance District), RTA has constructed six kilometers of internal roads along with 765 parking spots, 178 lighting installations, and a dedicated cycling track.
In the Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1, the authority has developed and maintained 27 kilometers of roads, delivered seven new roundabouts, converted one roundabout into a signalized intersection, and installed 42 kilometers of road lighting. These enhancements aim to improve traffic flow and augment road capacity to accommodate 3,000 vehicles per hour per lane.
Current Road Development Projects
In the Al Awir 1 region, the RTA is constructing 16.5 kilometers of internal roads, which includes a 7.5-kilometer connection linking Emirates Road to the area. The project, featuring a new four-kilometer lane on Emirates Road, is anticipated to double road capacity to 3,000 vehicles per hour and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
Works in Nad Al Sheba 1, 3, and 4 involve 32 kilometers of newly constructed and upgraded roads, cycling infrastructure, landscaping, and parking near community amenities. The project in Nad Al Sheba 1 is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, while Nad Al Sheba 3 and 4 are planned to be finished by the first quarter of 2027.
In Al Warqa’a, the RTA is developing new entry and exit points from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and enhancing Al Warqa’a 1 Street. This project, which will benefit 350,000 residents, is predicted to reduce travel times by up to 80% and will conclude by the end of 2025.
In Wadi Al Amardi, RTA is executing construction on 15 kilometers of new roads, which includes a four-kilometer enhancement of Tripoli Street, along with 11 kilometers of internal roads, installation of 405 lighting poles, and the creation of 1,000 parking spaces. This initiative will serve approximately 30,000 residents and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026.
Al Tayer emphasized that these initiatives are designed to address the increasing traffic volumes and improve the quality of life for residents, assuring that enhanced mobility and road capacity would foster population growth and stimulate economic activity within the emirate.
